What a great idea this website has turned out to be. I live in Norwich which has an small, but ancient, congregation. The second oldest in England I believe. I do have a day job at the Hospital, but I never thought that I would ever become the Hon Secretary of a Hebrew Congregation and neither, I suspect, did Rev Kersh. I never thought that I would one day teach our son, Simon, Barmitzvah just as as I was taught and neither I suspect did Rev Kersh. I tell him that you never know when even a little learning will come in handy Peter Prinsley Norwich, England
There is a reference to a woman by the name of Helen Pajem on your site. I am trying to find some information on my family whose surname is Pajem. My grandfather Salo Pajem, lived in Israel from 1932 until his death. This is all I know. I have had very little luck in finding any information on anybody with the last name of Pajem so I thought I'd ask. If you know of any information that can help me, please let me know. David L. I hadn't logged on to the Middlesbrough Newsletter for some time, as I thought that it was closed. However, a couple of nights ago, I was surfing through my 'favourites' and clicked the site and discovered that it had been revived.
I think your Newsletter is excellent. I'm rather a nostalgic individual and, although I didn't know a lot of people in Middlesbrough, some of the names brought back fond memories. Nat Cannon
Just to say thank you for the memories. Although I'm not Jewish, you have evoked such memories for me. I was born and up until the age of twelve grew up in and around Tollesby. Once again a big thank you Sharon
My family name of Spenceley in Middlesbrough dates back to around about the 1870's. Living in St Hilda's ward, before moving to North Ormesby, Cargo Fleet, and then onto Brambles Farm Estate (new Estate) in the early 1930's.
I was born in 1934. Schooling was at Brambles Farm school and then onto Lawson senior school in Cargo Fleet. Over the years like most of us I have many memories and stories of my past and have written about them for the generations that follow us. I have seached for memories of other people of Middlesbrough and surrounding area. Memories from the ordinary person and what happened in our lives. Up to now my search has been in vain. Is it possible for you to add an extra section on your web page to try to encourage others to write about their past memories. Please check out my page on Communigate and maybe consider linking to it. George Spenceley [email protected] www.communigate.co.uk/ne/memorie
