My name is Liz Selby and I am currently researching and writing content for an interactive map showing Jewish settlement across the UK from the medieval period for our new displays, which are due to open in 2010. I am trying to find images for our entry on Middlesbrough, and I having seen you website I wondered if it might be possible for you to send me some images of the synagogue (if they are your copyright), which I understand has now closed, for the display. We would need good quality versions of the images, as high resolution as you are able to supply them. Obviously we would give you a credit for supplying the images on the interactive. For some reason I cannot explain (probably because Israel was on my mind due to Bibi's visit to the US), I just typed "Nava Mendelovich" into Google. I knew Navah in the early 70's, first when she and her family lived in Ashkelon, and later when Motti had passed away and the family had moved to Tel Aviv, and she was studying at the School for Occupational Therapy on Har HaTzofim. One of the interesting aspects of our friendship was that we had the same sibling constellation: we were both the oldest, with two younger brothers approximately the same age.
The last time I saw any of them was in late December of 1973, when I returned from my stint of volunteering on a kibbutz due to the Yom Kippur war.
Nava and I maintained a correspondence for a few years afterward, but somehow the connection was lost (I suspect due to the several moves on both our parts). When I came back to Israel for 6-month Ulpan in 1978, I tried to locate her or her family, but with no success.
Anyway, the first link to come up was Kehilat Middlesbrough Newsletter Issue No 3 July 1999 mentioning Sadie, Zelig, Nava (and Motti (A"H).
(The second link, also to your newsletter was to inform me of Sadie's (A"H) passing in 2000).
I would very much like to get back in touch with Nava, if she agrees. Is there some way you could make this "shidduch" happen? Bobbi Fox [email protected] http://www.bobbifox.net
[Ed note: We passed this on to Terry Greenberg, who was indeed able to arrange the "shidduch"]
I am Rev Kersh's granddaughter, Melissa. I stumbled across your website a little while ago and was pleasantly surprised to hear the recordings. This was the first time I had heard my grandfather sing. It was very impressive. I am sure he would be quite amazed with what you have done, documenting all that rich history from Middlesbrough.
I am now living in Radlett, and it was interesting to see that my grandfather’s recordings were for someone who attended the Radlett Shul.
This is just a short message to say hello and thanks for putting the recordings on the site. Melissa Kersh Radlett, England
In a google search for my family, Gudinsky/Goodinsky I was directed to your website, for burials at the Old Cemetery – Middlesborough Hebrew Congregation. The headstone belongs to a Sarah Bessie Gudinsky – died 12/17/1925. I am quite interested in this person and her family as it is the same family name. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to contact the descendants of this person? Eileen G Kessner Plano, Texas USA
I am trying to find out some information about a great uncle of mine who immigrated to South Africa, probably Port Elizabeth, in the 1890's. His name was Wolf Goldwater, born around 1856, in Akmene Lithuania, but probably moved to Zagare Lithuania and possibly to Riga. His father was Jacob, (Yankel) Goldwasser, and his mother was Malka Baskin. I'm wondering if the Zeev Goldwater below could be my great uncle. I would appreciate it if anyone can provide me with information about this person. Thanks. Jo Ann Goldwater Montreal, Canada
