In case any of my mother's contemporaries should be still alive and would remember her from the time when she had lived in Middlesbrough, during the years from 1960 - 1975, you might like to make the following inclusion in your site:

Golly! June 29 and pressure is building up . Not problems, but challenges . What to do next – well, actually first? Am I faced, as Tantalus was or Damocles? Alas my Greek is not what it was - actually it never really was. Sorry, got a bit mixed up but quite understandable - much to do .-too much.. Census again, so soon . Well not so soon, it is just that time seems to be rushing by. Times winged chariot . Now where was I ? Ah yes , let me explain .
Publication of the Recorder is nigh (good word), the gardens of Stokesley are open today for me to visit and Dorothy would like an answer . Who is Dorothy, what is she ? Well I am sure you know. It is the census and she it is who must be obeyed. So I must embark on the thorny question of who is a Jew or more importantly who is a Jewess? The census is a sad occasion as you start by remembering those who have passed away and those who have moved away. And this year even more difficult as the categories have changed. It could have been worse, they could have wanted details of those broken down by sex (oh glorious ambiguity ) .
The happier and more surprising aspect is the appearance of some from nowhere - well not exactly nowhere . All kinds of things happen. Out of the blue you get a phone call from a complete stranger asking about burial arrangements for himself and his wife when the time comes .You give a talk and a stranger comes up afterwards and reveals his or her kinship. A chap writes to the local newspaper revealing that he is an orthodox Jew, complaining about the attitude of local MP Dari Taylor to the ritual slaughter of animals - and he has never got in touch with me and I cannot trace him as I have no address . A girl in the office mentions that her mother was Jewish with a Rumanian background and that once a year they come from far and wide for a celebration. Another girl in the Health Centre, pretty much the same !! And it goes on. I say "girl ", you see to me most people of whatever age are girls or boys so it is not easy to sort out the categories for Dorothy.
And talking of girls I was very pleased that the Representative Council was able to support Dana Murray for the Maccabi Games . It seemed to me that an awful lot of money was being demanded from the competitors by the organisers . I must also mention yet another girl. I have previously told the readers about Sarit Carlebach . She is going great guns. Although hard at work in Teesside University she is still able to find time to pursue her other career as an artist. She has many exhibitions planned for this year. Details can be found on her site on the Net which is escape.info. The site itself is very active and impressive.
Educational work relating to the Nazi Holocaust continues. As elsewhere, pupils from schools went to Auschwitz and the Holocaust Educational Trust provided a survivor to speak at Gilbrook School . Teesside has a new panel of professionals to tackle hate crime. The Cleveland Race and Faith Scrutiny Panel has been created consisting of some members of the Crown Prosecution Service and the Cleveland Police, with the support of the Cleveland Criminal Justice Board . It will also have representatives of minority groups upon it. The aim of the Panel is to look at past prosecutions and see if there are any lessons to be learned. It will also seek to reassure victims and encourage them to assist in prosecutions.

Vivienne [(Niman)] was the daughter of Belle and Nin Niman and it is quite a coincidence that you have published a group photo of a party at their house in 1944. Vivienne was too young to go to that party, being just 10 years old at the time. She took great pleasure in pointing out the people she recognised and I have made a copy to show to Eve Bharier, who now lives in Glasgow.
Incidentally, Vivienne sadly died on 21st February 2010, after a long illness.
Thank you for Kehilat Middlesbrough website. It is a very good way of connecting people.

I am the son of Sadie Mendelovich ex 'Smolan'.
There is a mistake about the age that my father died. He died aged 48 and not as stated (45)

I have really enjoyed reading all the contents and stories of the Kehilat Middlesbrough book.
Although I do look at the website, I am a 'book person' and it’s great to have it in book form
I saw that you have received an email from an Alec Gelb. The other side of my family is Gelb and came to South Africa at the same time and from the same origin as the one listed.
I'm almost sure we must be related
