Kehilat Middlesbrough Newsletter No 31 July 2014 (Page 3)
I came across these two older pictures that I thought might be of interest.
Yorkshire Moors April 8, 1958. I think this was on the notorious matza ramble. Westerdale: Left to right: David Saville, Donald Wiseman, Mayer Cohen (Coren), Michael Saville, David Lazarus, Bernard Vyner, Harold Wolf. There’s one I can’t identify in front with glasses and I think that’s Mayer’s brother Gershon standing up
Yorkshire Moors March 21, 1954. Back row: David Saville, Michael Bharier, Bernard Vyner, Alan Cohen, Harold Wolf In front: Donald Wiseman, Leon Vyner Michael Bharier
My late mother was 1 of 4 sisters that came to England on the kindertransport. They stayed at the hostel in Middleborough. I am trying to find out if there are any photos of the hostel, or the girls or any other records. Sharon Haffner
[Ed note: We replied as follows:
There are indeed photos of the sisters and other hostel girls on our website Here are a couple of links:
There are also a number of letters from the former hostel girls in the Newsletters [on this website], together with photos of the hostel itself.
I bought a book recently called "The Girl's Book of Heroines" (from the 1950s) and written in the back, in a child's handwriting, was "Eve Bharier 75 Roman Rodd Middlesborough". Googling this brought us to your website and a picture of Eve Bharier herself at a school event, on the very same road. It is a brilliant book and this made me love it all the more. If you would like pictures we can send them for your website. Antonia Kinman Derbyshire, England
